Thanks for the pictures.

The m&p does not look that much bigger.

The grip looks longer. Is the barrel longer?

Ok probably a dumn question, but which one do you like better? and why?

thanks

The barrel & the grip are a little longer - think Glock 17 size. For me, that "little bit" is critical in concealed carry terms

Not a dumb question at all! - I prefer the way the M&P handles & shoots better than any Glock: more mechanically accurate, better trigger, better pointer, less muzzle jump (for me, YMMV). Alas, I have "history" w/ the G19: one or another G19 has been my off & on (mostly on) primary concealed carry gun for the last 15 years or so. It was also my carry gun in uniform during another lifetime. In all that time & thousands of rounds, I can count the malfunctions on ONE HAND 8) (by the same token, my 9mm M&P currently has a malf count of zero). I've carried the M&P a bit in the 6 weeks I've owned it, but we're still in the T shirt season here in Texas and the M&P just wont' hide as easily. Gimme a sweater, vest or jacket & it'll be M&P 24/7. I wish the upcoming M&P Compact was G19 size rather than G26 size, as I think the proportions of the G19 are a perfect balance between concealability & shootability. Despite that, I'm pretty sure that The M&P Compact, if it retains the relative qualities of the full-size M&P, will become my every day "hot weather" (75-80% of the time here!) carry gun.

I think this particular post is one of the best I've read/seen on any forum I visit. These pictures, with one gun resting atop the other is awesome to show how very similar they are in a lot of respects. I personally prefer the M&P a lot more than the Glock. Also, the M&P has a stainless slide and guts and the mag capacity is good. The more I shoot my M&P the more I am comforable with it, and getting more accurate and faster each trip to the range. I never could progress with the Glock.

Guys, I know this is an old thread but I just registered today hoping to get some more info regarding the M&P pistols. I'm planning to get a M&P40 soon and was just wondering how it compared to a G19/23 in terms of size especially in the grip area... In Ricky T's pic (Glock on M&P) the two pistols seems almost the same (barely 1/4" difference). But with Melbourneman4007's pic (Glock on M&P) the Glock seems to be a lot shorter than the M&P. Judging on the Glock's base pad, it appears the M&P is longer by almost an inch. Is it because on Ricky T's pic he used a 1st Gen Glock and on Melbourneman's pic 3rd gen was used? Is there a difference in the two Glocks? Can someone shed light on this? This is very important before i make my purchase coz i plan to use it for CCW and it's very hard for me to conceal anything larger than a G19/G23 (less than 1/2" longer would be the max diff) if ever.

Thanks so much in advance!

I think the photos angles were different. Melbourne's pics, the angle he took it from showed more of the grip frame area. My pics were more from vertical angle. Your observation that there's about 1/4" difference is correct. The MP grip is abou 1/4" longer than the 19. The slide is less than 1/4" longer than the 19. The beavertail area of the Mp project further back.

Another option for you is get the MPCompact. It's smaller than the G19 but slightly larger i.e. longer in the grip frame than a 26. With the extended finger rest magazine, the Compact has almost the same grip length as a 19. This is my current carry gun choice.

Good luck.
