Shot my M&P compact today for the fist time. I really like the gun except for the fact that my little finger occasionally got pinched between the magazine and the butt. Anyone else have this problem? I had to hold the grip just right.

Why is doesn't the mag fit tighter? Anyone else have this problem?

It's a little lose but doen't seem overly lose. Both mags (and a spare I just bought) are all the same.

Maybe it's just a combination of the gun design, my hand "design", and my grip. Maybe I need to use a more relaxed grip with my fingers not so tightly squeezed together.

This is the first auto I've had with a finger rest. If I relax my grip a bit, I notice that the space between the finger rest on the mag and the butt is between my fingers instead of my little finger being on top of the space.

When I shoot the 40c with the "short" mag, I curl my pinky under the baseplate. However, I've had no problems with "pinkybite" with either mag.

That's my guess. A number of people, me included, liked the Glock 30 except for the fact that it pinched our fingers in precisely the matter you describe. Some people have no problem with it. I think it depends on where your finger fits on the gap between the pistol butt and the magazine baseplate. Also, remember that on plastic-framed guns line the M&P and he Glocks, the frame flexes during firing, which probably opens up that gap a bit more than it does on all-metal firearms.

I never could get around that pinching problem and eventually sold the G30. You may need to do the same with the M&P compact. Fortunately, there's the M&P full-size....

Cheers,
