Let me start this post my saying I am an experinced shooter. I have been shooting since I was in the 2nd grade, no joke. I also compete reguraly in IDPA and usauly finsish in the top half. I shot with a high grip thumbs forward and I have smaller than average hands. All that being said I have problems with the mag catch on my M&P. I keep hitting the mag release during rapid fire. I have tried the mag release both sides of the gun and have the problem no matter which side the mag release is on. I do not want to change my grip it works well for me and I have been shooting glocks with this grip for many years with success. I currently have the small back strap installed and was considering changing to the medium to see if this helps. I even considered wraping the grip with sports tape with out any back strap on the gun. I do know if either will help. Any suggestions are appreicated.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses! It is a 9mm. As stated above the gun is not malfucntioning, I don't think. I belive that it is my grip on the pistol, however I am using a correct grip and what I belive to be the best grip currently know to shoot a semi-aumotic pistol. The mag release seems to flow to much with the grip. That is why I was curious if anyone else had similar problems. Upon the advice given my tigs40cal I am going to try the medium backstrap. Any other advice is apprecitaed. Just curoius why would caliber matter? I know .40 as more recoil, however I use the same grip no matter what. Thanks

I've heard of some people sanding down their M&P mag catches so they don't protrude from the frame as much. Easy to do, easy to re-texture afterwards, and easy to replace if you go to far/screw it up.

Med back strap helped

I replaced the small backstap with the medium one and it helped. Still a problem however, I think I am going to trim the mag release down as suggested above. Thanks

Has any one bent the wire/spring for mag catch to try and increase pressure needed to push mag release? I have read here where people talked about it but havent herd of anyone doing it.Voiding warranty or breaking spring is a concern i would think.

Problem fixed

I sanded the mag release down to about half it's orginal size. Shot it his weekend in IDPA match and it performed excellent. No problems! I also ordered an extra mag release from SW today and am going to try triming it down so I can reverse it and use my triger finger to push the mag release. One last guestion how do I retuxture the mag release?
