Hello all:

I've owned an M&P9 (full-size) for about a year. It's a relatively early model, s/n MPB7xxx. I've noticed when I have the slide off that I can push on the striker at the rear and can get the firing pin to protrude out of the hole. It looks like it could cause a slam fire. My Glocks don't allow this to happen, and I was wondering if this indicates a firing pin safety problem.

Do you have any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Most will do that and seems bad at first but if you retract the striker to where it should be when assembled in the gun then try and push it forward it will not go. The act of taking the slide off the gun depresses the plunger so it will allow this but when you retract the striker it allows it to reset then it will fuction properly again.

If you can push it out after pulling it back then someting is wrong and it should go back to S&W.

Coltman:

It protrudes about a millimeter or so.

Dan:

Thanks! That makes me feel better. It doesn't go forward after I retract it.

Dan you answered my question without you even being there when I asked it...

Thanks
