I lock the slide back, put the clip in gently, and when Im ready, I release the slide by only flipping the lock release. Dont let the slide down manually, thats not how the gun was intended to work. When you fire a round, that slide comes back grabs another shell, and slams home. I wouldnt be tripping the slide lever on an empty mag though.

This is how I do it, others may do it differently.

BMR, good point. Yes I supose over time you could damage the lock or slide by rounding it a bit. I dont see that happening over night. The slide can be pulled back maybe 1/8" farther then when its on its stop. If your going to pull it back and then release the slide as you stated(also whats in the user manual)new users need to "let it go" and not ride it down. Id rather see a complaint that the lock got peened after 10k rounds, then a complaint that "I have to push the slide forward" as its not fully going into battery.
