Tamworth tamworth tamworth...Basics in any self defence course will tell you not to get any closer than 4m without having some deflective or defensive plan, immediate. Someone can make up 2m before you have time to react and then get incapacitated (maybe if you can get it happening) and then stab you as they fall over you… Guns and knives are not a 100% answer to self defence. Some of the lads here have also noted that MOVEMENT is critical to a SD situation… Avoid, block, defend, act. That's the key 8) And the best one is avoid
Anyway to make a buck, but still makes you think if you were in that situation what would you do?

Quite right... Some form of training is required if you are really serious about SD. Guns are just a small part of the deal. imo.
Holy cow, I couldn't watch the whole thing. The music was killing me and after more than a full minute I still didn't get the point. Admittedly, I was biased against the thing after all the "we can teach you the secrets of self-defense!" stuff on their site.

If someone is 5ft away from you with a knife, you're in bad shape if he wants to cut you. They timed the first "cut" at 0.43 seconds ... the number of people who can draw from concealment and get off an accurate shot in that timeframe is so small it's not worth discussing. There is no special training or trick that is going to give you a draw that fast or allow you to delay his strike long enough to make up the difference unless you go hands-on. And even if you do fire a shot or three into him, it could easily take him long enough to expire that you'll be red ribbon.

This is really nothing more than a bizarre twist on the age-old Tueller drill, which aims to demonstrate that a knife-wielding attacker at 21 feet is an immediate deadly threat. So if we understand that, presumably we also understand he'd be a threat at 5 feet, right?

Just because you have a gun on your hip doesn't mean the gun is the answer to every possible scenario. Someone within arm's length taking aggressive action towards you is probably going to require an unarmed initial response to create time (and hopefully distance).

Snap on the music Mr Todd! Got into the first one and fast forward it to something that turned out to be not much... Had to leave the rest :?

SD is a mind set that will not be learnt in a class in 5 steps... Unfortunately it will take time and practice
Wait Todd...you mean I can't just right-click and "Bullet Time" slow motion to draw faster?

Those instructors ripped me off!

[edit]

Having read the text below the videos, especially the part about fighting to your gun and all that jazz...it made me think of that episode of South Park. "ALABAMA MAN! When your wife asks you where you've been all night, just press the action button and bust open her lip!"

Sorry, I didn't mean to give that impression. You can become a better shooter just by sitting in front of your computer. But not on their website. Only on my secret website ... which I'll give you access to for just four small payments of $89.99 plus sipping and handling ..........

Alright, haha, I get it. I had to turn the volume off for the "challenge" video too. I understand it's "not worth discussing" if you are already familiar with the fact that an attacker can cover 21 feet in 1.5 seconds. The point of starting at 5 feet is to SHOW uneducated gunners just how hopeless it is to use your gun as the first step. They agree completely with what was said about avoidance first, and using distractions and distancing and other techniques before resorting to drawing your firearm. I found it interesting to see the back at 45 degrees distancing and drawing while distancing... Y'see, I haven't had any other training, so this is all new to me! Any video that I think I learned from, you can count on me posting on here... much like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lzri8dn7p0

Yes, we give a special 3% discount for orders of 2-3, and 5% for orders of 5 or more. In addition, our exchange rate for Australian currency. Five dollars Australian equals two nickels US.

To place your order, just call our hotline at 1-800-U-SUCKER.

Yea, wow! Having trouble with the phone number... Throw in a Russian bride (I’ll send the money over for the flight out here with her twin sister) and it’s a deal!! 8)

Mental note when I get my gun, put Todd on my list.

Hey, I believe that the exchange is around the 90c mark, better than 60c a while back. I’ve got most my gear from America by Wilson and his mates… 8)

I believe that you are confusing it with the New Zealand coin?

Tamworth

I recon that the Tod Jarrett clips are good viewing.

Of course nothing beats throwing lead down range 8)

Presentation from the SERPA

In making your presentation from (drawing your weapon) a SERPA or any other holster - it takes going through the motions 25 times before you get the hang of it and 2,000 times before it will become automatic (when you can do it without thinking.) The drill should also include some failures to feed, stove pipes, etc. One gun, one holster and one location (if your dress code will allow it) helps a lot. Want to learn fast - get a Beamhit 190-1 laser Training System with the 1 LT-100 External laser or just a good and cheaper - just get the 1 LT-100 laser and put up some D-2 target centers around your house. Check them out at www.beamhit.com. Set your goal to do the NRA Distinguished Expert course with a perfect score in less the half the allowable time and the plate rack in 2 seconds. View carrying a handgun as a martial art. Get training that includes close in hand to hand combat.

P.S. Practice drawing with your week hand from wherever you wear your holster - the SERPA doesn't hack it here.
