I was shuffling through a Cheaper Than Dirt ad the other day and saw they had Remington Golden Saber 115gr JHP on sale for about $13/box of 25. I'm currently using Speer Gold Dot 115gr for my SD load. The GS a just a little cheaper, but I haven't heard much about GS.

Do you guys have any experience with GS? Any reccomendations?

LOL, you do have a good point. I'm quite happy with Gold Dots, I was just wondering if it was any good in case I might be able to switch to a comparable load for a little cheaper.

I'm just tossing this out there as an FYI, please note that these are not apples to apples tests but similar enough to use for informational purposes...

"DoubleTap's offical tests were done using 10% ballistic gelatin provided by Vyse gelatin using all FBI protocols and 4 layers of denim and two layers of light cotton T-shirt in front of the gelatin."

DoubleTap 9mm+P

115gr. Gold Dot JHP @ 1415fps - 12.00" / .70"

124gr. Gold Dot JHP @ 1310fps - 13.25" / .70"

147gr. Gold Dot JHP @ 1125fps - 14.00" / .66"

These are similar tests but sponsored by Federal

Federal HST 9mm 147 gr. 13.75” / 0.689”

Federal HST 9mm 124 gr. 12.0” / 0.709”

Winchester SXT 9mm 127 gr. 13.5” / 0.684”

BrassFetcher's tests from a 4" barrel

Remington 147gr Golden Saber @ 982 - 14.4" / 0.612"

Remington 124gr +P Golden Saber @ 1098 12.6" / 0.684"

You didn't mention what M&P you'll be keeping these in. If it's a compact then you might splurge for Speer's pricey 124gr Gold Dot Short Barrel cartridge. I keep the 180gr version in my 3" Kahr PM40.

I'm not a 9mm guy (although I do own several) so just speaking from just reading this and that, for a full sized pistol I'd probably lean toward Speer 124gr +P Gold Dot or Federal 124gr Tactical +P HST, unless you expect to be shooting through car doors. Then the Tactical Bonded are supposed to be a bit better. The Federals are also supposed to be very low flash.

McNett's DoubleTap claims awe inspiring performance at a reasonable price but I've never seen independent tests. Sight unseen I'd be concerned about the possibility of huge amount of flash from anything loaded that hot. But like I said I've never read anything but marketing.

Anyway here's what I keep in my SD pistols.

Full sized .45acp... Federal 230gr HST +P

Bare Gelatin: 12.75” / 1.043”

Heavy Clothing: 14.0” / 0.850”

3" .45 acp... Federal 230gr Bonded +P because of their claimed efficiency from shorties

3" 40S&W... The pricey Speer 180gr Short Barrel load, or 180gr Rangers just because I have a bunch.

BTW: John over at Ammunition To Go is a good guy and a wealth of information.

Just the opposite here. I love the Golden Sabers.

Don't know about the 115 gr but love the GS 124gr +P.

I have seen (and heard from others) GDHP plug and not expand. Have never seen/heard a GS not expanding.

Have to remember the DoubleTap's loads/specs are NOT Speer's too.

What is JHMO.
