After looking at some of the rugers posted on here I'm thinking thats what I would like to have next. I could use a few pointers on which model would be best. I have a Walther p22 I like the little gun but it does not like the inexpensive bulk ammo. At least that is the excuse I'm using

Any input on which model I should start with and why that model

It all depends on which model you want, and what your plans are for it.

Do you want the angle'd back grip of the MKI/MKII/MKIII? Or do you prefer the 1911 style grip of the MKIII 22/45? Do you want a black/blue'd model, or stainless steel? Plan on keeping it stock, or modifying it?

If you plan on swapping out the upper for a Tactical Solutions upper like I did, I suggest you get the cheapest model Ruger MK available - since all you're using it for is the lower receiver.

Let us know what you want, and waht your plans are, and we can help you out.

I really like the angle of the 22/45 and after seeing the pictures with the Tactical Solutions upper. I'm thinking I would like to modifying it but it may be done over a period of time. Can you get aftermarket grips for the 22/45 guns?

I have only been into guns for about 1 year so this would be the first gun I would modify. My local gun dealer was almost no help at all so I thought I would start here since you guys have done such an awsome job on you own rugers.

I would suggest you talk with some rimfire specialists at www.rimfirecentral.com and www.mkiii.org There are several others but i found these guys can answer anything about any .22 you need to know. Josh is very knowledgeable too, even though he buys real expensive stuff and takes pictures of it, but never fires it... But what you expect, he's in the Airforce...

We sure can!

If you like the 22/45 grip, and plan on swapping out the upper for a Tactical Solutions upper I suggest going to Bud's and ordering this Ruger MKIII 22/45. It's the cheapest one they sell. All you need it for is the lower receiver/grip and bolt. Then go to this page to order whichever TacSol Pac-lite upper you want.

As far as grips go for the 22/45 I'm not sure. I've never looked into it, but I will. And don't worry about this being your first gun to modify. My Ruger MKIII was my first I really messed with other than throwing a 3.5lb connector in my Glock G19. I was scared taking it apart. I had a hard time getting it back together, but it was because I was rushing it. It's very simple to swap stuff out on these guns. And if you need help we're here for ya!

I couldn't agree more, you will end buying a Pac-lite barrel, then a suppressor and etc. So why spend the big cash, its really not much but they can be a money pit, just for example my 10/22 build "The Infidel" I am fast approaching nearly $3000.00 and I am not complete. But they are so much fun once you get one, you wont be sorry...
