I recently purchased a S&W MP40c at a pawn shop. Bad nistake. I paid $400 which I see from an internet search is retail.
When I examined the ammo clip it was marked S&W .40 .357
Does this mean the weapon will fire sig .357 cartridges without b lowing my hand off?

Welcome to our little corner of the net!

The magazine is marked 40 S&W and .357 Sig as they both fit the same magazine, however the barrels are different, so definitely do not try to fire 357 Sig without installing a 357 Sig barrel!

A clip is normally used to load a magazine, the magazine feeds cartridges into the barrel. In the clips photo on the left is an enbloc clip used in an M1 rifle, the magazine on the M1 is fixed inside the stock and the enbloc clip is inserted into the fixed magazine, on the right is a stripper clip that is used to load external magazines like on an AR-15. The photo on the right is a magazine for a M&P pistol.
