Check out Dick's Sporting Goods if you have one in your area. Sunday's sale advertises following pistol ammo on sale:

1) Remington UMC 9mm FMJ 115 grain $5.98/ box 50 - 10 box case price.

2) Remington UMC .45 ACP FMJ or .40 S&W copper plated $9.98/box 50- 10 box case price.

Thought these were pretty competitive prices. Anyone know of any better prices on ammo for target practice? :?

The only ammo I don't buy online is UMC 9MM range ammo at Dick's. Even with the tax I cannot beat the price online. The Dick's near me always sells out the first day of the sale but after a few 2-4k rainchecks the store personel know me and give me the sale price at all times.

For range ammo I have never been able to beat Wal-Marts price on WWB. For defense I use Federal Hydra-Shoks and I have never seen a deal on them; they are high no matter where you buy.

All the Walmarts in these parts, RI, MA have stopped selling firearms and carry only a few boxes of ammo if any. SportsAuthority has neither. I am getting a little jealous. I ordered 2K of .40 Speer Lawman ammo from Mirage for $218 per thousand to my door . The next day I received a email from Wholesale Hunter and they are having a bargain basement sale. They have AE40R3 American Eagle .40 165 gr for $8 a box. I was going to order 1k and the shipping was $13. I edited the cart for 2K and shipping was still $13. Ended up ordering 3k for $480 + $13 for shipping. $164 per K to my door for good .40 range ammo. That's the cheapest I have seen for .40. Should have bought more but I am way overstocked.

ToolMaker: I would rethink the defense ammo. The new generation Ranger T and Gold Dots seem to have a edge over the Federal Hydra-Shoks.

WOW I feel lucky. I usually shop at Sportsmans Werehouse for all my weapons needs, but I've found that the Local Wal-Mart's can't be beat on the price of ammo. I pay approx. $50.00 for a box of 250 Remington UMC for my M&P .40. I leave in the Seattle Area.

Dick's in Atlanta had a buy 1 box at regular price ($8.99) and second box at 1/2 price ($4.50).

They had that promotion in RI. It was a one use coupon. Only good for the two boxes. Really not a good deal because if you buy ammo on sale and by the case at Dick's you get more than the 25% off. 25% off is what the buy one get one 1/2 price comes out to. I picked up two boxes of Winchester 3006 that never goes on sale so I used the coupon on that.

Wholesale Hunter has a sale on Federal A&E 165 grain .40 FMJ for $8 per box of 50. Sweet part is the shipping on 3k was only $13. Came out to $8.22 per box to my door and no 7% tax

I am thinking of ordering more even though I am overstocked.

UMC is good target ammo and I use it in the 9s but I personally think the A&E is a little cleaner.

ya is this stuff any good?.. pics?..

I don't know how to post pics but I can tell you by experience that the Federal A&E line of ammo is one of the best and cleanest range ammos I have ever used. The QC control is 100%. If I ever ran out of Ranger ts and Gold Dots, A&E would be my next choice for defense because it's so reliable.

hmm i didnt know that.. so its just cheap great ammo huh?

Yep, looks clean, shoots clean, every cartridge is perfect. Made in the USA, brass cased, FMJ, ammo. Much better that the imported stuff boxed or loose and just as cheap if not cheaper. I started using A&E for range ammo in my ARs about 3 years ago. Must have used about 12K of it and never had a failure of any kind. More than I can say for some ammo costing twice as much. I"m using it for my .40s because of the price and excellent results I got from my 5.56s. I also use A&E for my 3006 range ammo but still use Dick's UMC for my 9s because at $5.98 a box on sale I can't beat it and it runs fine also.

The price of ammo has gone us so much in the past year that I was very surprised at the .40 cal price + low shipping at Wholesale Hunter. Last year I was paying $180 per K for A&E 223 and now it's $270+.

Try the A&E. You will be very pleased.

This taught me a little lesson about ammo. I ordered 4k of A&E 223 and the vendor sent me 3k of A&E and 1K of PowerShok 223 because that's all the stock he had. I went to the Federal web site and compared the balistics on both rounds. Exactly the same. The only difference is Federal listed the A&E as target and the PowerShok as targert and varmint. The Power-Shok is twice the $$$ as the A&E. Compare it yourself. Just check the boxes for Power-Shok 223B and AE223 and click on compare. BTW the Power-Shok does not list varmint on the box. Same ammo, different box, same manufacturer, twice the price.
