I am returning my MP40 to S&W for a rusting slide and I have 2 questions.

1) Send the whole gun or just the slide?

2) If I send the whole gun, do they have to send it to an FFL near me or can they mail it to me directly? i did not ask when I had them on the phone.

If its just the slide giving you rust issues, just send the slide. I am not 100% sure but I think you can send it USPS?? Might want to double check that though!

(1) If S&W is sending you a call tag, is it for overnight shipping? If so, I'd send the whole gun.



(2) If you are shipping it back at your own expense, I'd just send the slide. You don't have to take any special precautions with a slide. Ship it however you want. My advice would be to ship it by USPS Priority Mail, which is fairly cheap and gets anywhere in the country in 2-3 days. For a couple extra bucks you can pay to track it, which is advisable.



(3) While technically you can use USPS to ship complete guns under certain circumstances, no one -- not even manufacturers -- does that. Use UPS or FedEx, ship overnight (required by the companies), and declare that it's a firearm (required by law).

Send the whole gun, no mag! Since they are a manufacturer doing repair they can next day it back to you at the same address as it came from.

Send the whole gun. They are sending you a pre-paid shipping label for it to be sent overnight via UPS. You might as well take them up on it.

Send the whole gun, no mag! Since they are a manufacturer doing repair they can next day it back to you at the same address as it came from.

They replaced my slide because my old one was showing signs of rust, had a messed up rear sight, and the striker was broken. I didn't include a mag, so they left me the one they used for test firing as a present
