I gives you a general time frame of when the pistol was made. Also, it is just fun to see how many have been made since yours.

So what does that mean? Was mine an early one?

Just bought it 1/9/07.

The serial numbers started at MPA0000 or MPA0001 and progressed up numberically and then alphabetically. The most recent revisions occured during the MPBxxxx series, so you're all set.

Having a registry also allows one to compare the serial number of their gun with others. If there is a certain serial number range with problems, it would also be more likely it is not an isolated incident.
