Hello all,

I had some custom work done on my shield slide that required a detailed strip and now the striker doesn't want to reset behind the safety plunger on its own. I sent it back to the gunsmith who tried to fix the issue by pulling the channel liner out away from the breach some, but that didn't fix it. That also didn't make sense to me since I'd guess the liner needs to be seated all the way.

I've tried a new striker assembly, safety plunger/spring, and neither made a difference, so I'm guessing it's still a liner issue. Is there some secret to getting a channel liner to work? Thanks for any help!

Is your striker channel completely dry?
They can sort of “hydro-lock” if there’s oil in that channel and/or on the striker.
They need to be run dry in there.

Other than that; I’d detail strip everything down again and carefully reassemble; since that was recently done, and it hasn’t functioned correctly since.

Does it have the striker return spring in the barrel liner in front of the striker assembly? Needs to have that.

Does the striker block move up/down easily/fully with the striker out of the pistol (sometimes there are rough sides/corners in the hole the striker block moves in that can bind up the striker block. It may move one way and not up and not drop back down from the spring pressure on top of it (or you could have a rough, draggy trigger pull when it drags/binds as the striker block moves upwards.)

The channel liner does have to be fully forward. The only time I've put one together and not had the channel liner full forward I couldn't get the cover on the back of the slide. The striker assembly wouldn't move forward far enough to provide clearance for the cover to slide past the back of the sleeve on the striker assembly. If your back slide cover will install/remove normally it sound like the channel liner is fully forward.

Could it be broken/cracked? Could be. If you remove the striker assembly you can see the channel liner with a nice light (doesn't have to be real bright because the inside of it reflects light pretty good due to color of the liner and smoothness of it's surface). Not sure how hard a crack/split/bulge would be to see, if there was one causing the issue.

There's no left/right/front/back on the M&P striker block/striker orientation like there is on some pistols. Nothing has to be turned a certain way to work together.
