Which Sig model do you prefer and where can I find them cheap? I know they are pretty expensive but I would like everyone's opinion before I make up my mind to buy one.

I have shot many Sigs. They are excellent pistols. The only Sig I have extensive experience with is the P220. It is a very nice .45 that would work well for duty/defense purposes.

I don't care the the DA/SA setup. If I bought another Sig it would be DAO.

I own a SigPro 2022 TT in 9mmwith night sights. I paid $515 shipped for it. The SigPros are alot cheaper then the classic P line. I prefer my 2022 over my buddies' 226 and 229.

Your other option is to find a Sig CPO (certified pre-owned). You can find many of them over at the Sig Forum in the Classifieds. There are several dealers over there including Jerry @ Ordnance Outsellers and Steve @SCPFirearms. These are great guys to deal with.

I own several and I think now CPO is the way to go... (price hikes).

If you like single stacks there are a ton of P6's (225's), floating around for around 399. These are German police trade-ins and while they have holster wear (some more than others), the internals are good from what I seen. The one thing that might bother you is the import marking's - looks like a monkey did it. Still a good price though. The CPO's will be in better shape but run higher... 500ish, but you also get the sig 1 yr warranty if that gives you peace of mind...

As far as preference... that's tough. P220ST (.45) is awesome. but I also like the 228's, 225, 226.

utarch00 gave you good advice where to find one and read up on them....

Good luck-

I have three. A 220 carry two tone with Nills, 229R in 357 sig and a 228 west german.

I love them to death. Nothing can compare to the quality of a Sig.

I recommend buying a CPO or certified pre owned. I have a guy that I do business with "clubster" on the Sig forum that has the best prices. 226 40's and 9's are 500 shipped and the 220 carry models are 550 shipped.

I have his contact info PM me if your interested.

I appreciate the responses but I found out I can get the 2022 for $438 and the P220-229 for $609 (brand new). I'm still deciding whether to purchase or not.

I have owned two Sigs, a P226 and a P239 but they were DA/SA trigger but great shooting pistols, built for extreme conditions (combat) Homeland Security ordered 65,000 Sigs in diffenent models.

P226DAK, P229DAK, P239DAK. I can't wait to get my hands on a P229DAK. Dried fired a P220 the other day and feel in love with the DAK trigger. I'm saving my money for one, they're in the $700 range. Check this article out;

I have a "fair" collection of Sig's....

Try http://www.rainierarms.com/ for CPO's. He is a great guy to do business with.
Nice website, but no P229 DAK's. Still fairly new. Sig is my favorite gun maker top to bottom.

Can't afford any Sigs for myself but my father has a few, the newest is a 229R DAK. I shot it for the first time a couple weeks ago and i have to say i prefer the DAK trigger to the traditional DA/SA. Make sure you try one out before buying, i would definitely recommend the DAK, it feels like the slickest DA revolver you've ever shot.

Just my $.02

Beauty in the eye of the beholder...READ THIS ARTICLE:

"Reliable and deadly accurate, it is the handgun of choice for the FBI, the DEA and the Secret Service to name a few; and it has just been awarded contracts from the Coast Guard and Homeland Security. Law enforcement's baby: the SIG SAUER P229. "

tstrenusous10,

I just had the opportunity to shoot a 229DAK a couple weeks ago. While i did like the trigger a lot, its definitely not very much like the M&P's trigger. WHere the M&P has a lot of light takeup before the break the DAK feels much more like a slick revolver, I assume because the trigger is fully retracting and releasing the hammer during the stroke. I loved the way it felt, really smooth and light, but its night and day different in feel compared to M&P. The DAK is much better than SIG's traditional DA/SA IMHO. Just my $.02

If i ever had enough cash to buy a SIG it'd be one of their 1911GSR models, the traditional pistols just don't feel right to me, a little chunky. Maybe my M&P is spoiling me 8)

I have the 229 and 226. My 229 is the my favorite gun of all. It's a .357/40. I think the size is perfect. I wouldn't consider it for CCW but a great gun for everything else. My 9mm 226 is a great gun too. I just don't shoot as well with it as my 229.

I've read that on their site. Not too big on 9mm so I'd get the 40. I was looking at them yesterday at the store. The "compact" doesn't look much smaller then the fullsize.
Well their full size is the P226

Lenght,7.7in

barrel, 4.4 in

weight, 26oz w/o mag

Sig compact is P239

Lenght, 6.6 in.

Don't get me wrong, I love my .229, but it is a bit tough to carry concealed as it is heavy and bulky...
