Slide Lock back

Back out to TDI today for a Level III-took two M&P-both this time with NO Magazine Disconnects (last time I had one of each). The older of the two-shooting 125G RNL rounds was constantly locking back after a few rounds. Switched guns, no problems. It obviously wasn't the mags, the ammo nor by grip. This same gun did it a few times the last time I used it. Of the three 9mm MP's I have this one seems to have the only problem

Check the tension on the slide release. There is a little wire that gives the slide release tension. A buddy of mine had one that was bad. It didnt have enough tension to hold it down when the weapon fired. Called S&W and told them about it and they sent him a new one. The bad thing about it is that it comes attatched to the slide release. So they sent him a new slide release. So you haft to convince S&W to send you one. But it fixed the problem right up! Hope this helps.

thanks-that makes sense
Same for me, but I sent mine in to have the slide release fixed. It here is a way to just change it yourself, I am reasonably sure that will fix the problem.
I had a problem with my slide but just the opposite. Mine wont lock every time when i finish a magazine. It also loads a round when i insert a full magazine if the slide is locked back
Ok for a complete NOVICE, how does one adjust the said "Slide Release Tension?" My problem is that my M&P40 has recently begun cycling through all 15 rds and the slide remain in the firing position, not back like usual. Any suggestion or step by step solutions out there?

Its odd that I am quoting myself, but I just thought this was relevant to the problem. Would changing the grip/backstrap have an impact on the slide not staying in load position when the magazine is empty? Yes, No, Maybe???

Possibly, as with a smaller backstrap you could be riding the slide release.
Actually I should have stated earlier, but I switched from "small" to "medium." Thanks for answering however...

Slide not Locking Open when last round fired

I just purchased my M&P9 and finally went out to shoot it today. After running approx 100 rds thru the pistol I had one jam in the chamber (failure to feed) and 3 failures of the Slide not locking open when the last round was fired. I had cleaned the gun prior to firing and was using the small hand grip. Since returning from the range I have cleaned the gun and have installed the medium grips to see if it corrects the above problem and also corrects the gun from shooting approx 1" to the left. I'll keep you posted. This is not a good first hand experience.

Keep us posted on this. I thought the same thing. My slide is locking back on the last round on my 9mm Compact. Very strange. I have the thinnest grip installed and thought too, that maybe the medium would make a difference. I sure hate to have to send the gun out for repair.

Sorry about the delay but I finally sent my M&P9 in to S&W for repairs. It took approx 2 weeks and this is the work they said the did on the gun. Barrel Modification and Replaced the Extractor. Oh Yes they also sent me a spare magazine. I went to the range today and fired approx 150 rds thru the MP9 and experianced one failure to extract, (I'll call it a fluke this time) put other then that it worked flawless.
What ammo were you shooting?
Lookin' good. Shoot another 200 rounds through it and give us a follow-up.

Well I finally made it back to the range and fired approx 200 rds. 150 rds were CCI Blazer and 50 rds of Winchester. Much to my delight I had NO malfunctions, so hopefully its safe to say that S&W support really is as good as everyone claims they are. My faith has been renewed!!! Happy Shooting!
Good news...
