I am looking for a small of back leather holster for my full size M&P 40. Anyone know a company that sells one?

You are aware of the consequences to your spine if you should happen to land on your back, which is entirely possible? I won't try to talk anyone out of anything, but a lot of experienced people won't reccomend this as a viable carry locatin anymore.

That came about from gangbangers carrying guns mexican stye parallel with their spine. Carring like this the gun is sideways, i already carry my glock 31 like this no problems. If I fell on my a$$ it is too high to even hit the gun. Also the air marshalls carry like this. How is carrying like this gay? I am not sure I follow that comment?

a little write up on the SOB holster

The SOB2 is one of my most popular and successful holsters. I designed it over thirty years ago as an efficient, unobtrusive mode of carry for gun-shop owners in France who, by law, are required to carry a weapon whilst conducting business. Since then, it has been adopted worldwide by airport security staff and sky marshals, BGs, law-enforcement personnel, and DEA operatives. Ironically, with the current climate of tension at airports, it is enjoying a renewed level of success after having been rediscovered by airport security personnel and sky marshals, It is particularly suitable for women in plainclothes where conventional belt carry holsters may present problems of concealment. It provides an unorthodox but effective form of covert carry, using the natural hollow adjacent to the small of the back as a place of concealment. Wet-blocking and heavy hand-molding to the weapon it is designed to carry provide more than adequate retention, yet the radical rake allows for an extremely fast, natural draw -- as easy, in fact, as reaching behind you.

This is a task-specific holster and like all task-specific holsters, common sense dictates that there are some obvious situations where its use would not be appropriate, such as when seated in a vehicle, wearing several layers of clothing, etc. In short, any given set of circumstances that would prevent you from reaching behind you. In all other situations, however, whether for principal weapon or for backup, this mode of concealed carry is hard to beat.

A rear protective tab is not available with this holster as its place is taken up by the rear belt slot. However, the tab is not really needed, as the pistol doesn't come into contact with the body.

Bingo - I was wondering how long that would take. I decided early on to nix SOB carry because of the steel slamming into my spine thing (possible, though unlikely) but mainly due to the fact that my strong hand would be all the way behind my back on the draw at what might be an inconvenient time... Strong side IWB appears to be the best for me.
(1) Small-of-back carry is dangerous. Period. People have been permanently disabled after falling onto hard objects carried in the small of the back, not just guns but handcuff cases, etc. Spinal injuries suck.

(2) There is nothing that SOB carry will do for you that can't be accomplished with a more standard belt or IWB holster.

(3) The quoted text supporting SOB carry is laughable. It frequently states that the holster has been adopted by "sky marshals" (whoever the hell that is), and then at the same time says the holster is inappropriate for wearing while seated in a vehicle! Well ... huh?

If you're choosing a holster based on pictures of girls in tight leather pants or something you saw on a movie screen ... stop.

Nice holster!

I use a Crossbreed SOB for hot weather wear. My fullsize disappears under a loose t-shirt.

It gets positioned a little off center to minimize the chance of injury.
