Told me some interesting things, he's been really bugging Smith about the M&P line and has alot of good info it seems. He said that Smith has pushed the .45 full size production schedule up and its going faster than planned, might be end of the year by the time the first ones start rolling out!

He said the capacity would be 10+1 or possibly 11+1, retaining the slimmer frame size rather than fattening up for more rounds (I'm glad to hear that, myself). He also mentioned that some would have an external frame safety, I guess that would be for .mil trials (that seem to now be on hold)?

Anyway, sounds very interesting and I was having such a good time talking to the guy I picked up a .40 while I was there to go with my 9. My shop had them on sale for $399.99 with a 50rd. box of Speer Gold Dots thrown in! Awesome, I think. They also had the 9 compact, and while it feels great and looks to be a very nice compact, I wasn't inclined to bite on one. My PT-111 Pro has been a superb runner, and has more capacity than the M&PC without being any bigger. For now, I'll stick to the Taurus (which surprises me that I'd ever say such a thing, but I love my PT).

Me too! The "extra capacity" of my XD-45 is wasted on me because of my State of residence. I can hold/fire it just fine (even though my hands are smallish), but the M&P may turn out to be even better.

I thought I was done buying pistols for now, but this may change my mind...

The word I have from a good source is the M&P 45 will have a grip that is 1/10 of an inch bigger in circumference than the others and 1/2 more slide and barrel. The last word I got was 10+1. Way cool it sounds. The friend has shot it some and loved it. Said it is the gun of the future. I can't wait. CHECk 360 David.

I hope they go more than 10. At least 12/14 would be great. I have bigger hands and do better with the fatter grip. Besides, you guys with smaller hands can use the smaller backstrap. Win/win for everyone?

This helped me quite a bit. It makes HUGE palmswells when combined with the large gripstrap, feels a lot better to me.

Found this tidbit over on the 10-8 forums:

"For those who are interested, I spoke with the rep yesterday. He told me that they have moved it up, and are now looking around Thanksgiving or the first part of December.

I also asked him about the manual safety model. He said that version would be the first to be released. The safety is ambidextrous and very similar to a 1911. I might have to work in a purchase of one of these somehow.

On a side note, he checked with the factory on ordering a 442 without the internal lock, and was told that they decided against it. It was brought up at IACP to make them available for LE, but it's a no-go."

Man I hope this is true.

In talking with one of the district LE sales managers I was informed the M&P45 would initially be released with the manual safety. He also said Dec or January for release. Personally, I can't wait to see one of these guns myself.
