Can someone tell me the purpose of the small wire that sticks out of the rear of the magazine well right beside the sear deactivator lever? It pivots up when the magazine is inserted. It is supposed to be there as it shows in the owner's manual picture on how to use the sear disconnect lever but what's it do? Does it have anything to do with the mag disconnect, and if so can it be deactivated easily?

S&W doesn't have an exploded view of the gun in their owner's manual any more so I can't look it up there.

Sounds like the magazine disconnect.

You can tell by lifting it up and down and checking if the end of the trigger bar cams in and out of contact with the sear.

The yellow 'lever' is what you use to release the slide when you field strip it. The other lever is the mag disconnect, if it has one.
