I agree, I test the M&P before and after trigger jobs with a nylon rod and they all put marks in my ceiling. If you use the eraser end of a pencil it is kind of a dud.
I am thinking it has to do with the shape of the striker it is kind of cone shaped a tad bit smaller on the very end than most 1911s and that allows it to penetrate the eraser.
I figure if it has enough energy to bounce the punch off my celing it ought to be enough to light any primer.
