I have seen a few different posts asking how many like the trigger on th compact models. I am new to ownership so bear with me. Many have referenced getting a "trigger job" done. What exactly does this do. maybe cause I am new but I think the trigger is comfortable. Does this mean it can actually be better? What exactly do they do or how does the feel vary after the job is complete?

here you go.

this thread explains what is done. The affect is a smoother trigger, more crisp break at the end of the pull, and a more positive reset. I am still learning what this "positive reset" is but the other affects do make the trigger much nicer.

I would say that if you are happy with the trigger, don't touch it. It's just for us picky ex-1911 guys that want our striker fired trigger to feel like a single action trigger. The beautiful thing about the M&P is that it actually gets close, all things considered.
