Warren rear sight fit too tight

Anyone have trouble installing the warren rear sight on a M&P?

My new Warren rear doesn't want to go on the slide.

And yes - I am trying to put it on left to right.

cheers

Well, there's your problem right there!

It should be installed from right to left. In other words, start it from the side of the slide where the ejection port is.
I put mine in left to right without problem. It allowed me to move the stock rear halfway off the spring and slide the new sight right over it, driving the old off with the new, and never having to mess with the spring. I don't think that's the problem.

My Warren rear was tight enough that it wouldn't have fit left to right.
Are you certain the rear is tapered? I don't think it is, and I can't measure a difference with my dial caliper.

I'm such a knuckel-head - I meant to say I am trying to put it in RIGHT TO LEFT.

So - any advice?

Mine slipped in so easy my toddler could have installed it. I guess they have modified their design somewhat due to some criticims and fears of it falling out, or your slide notch is slightly smaller. I bet on the former.

use a bigger hammer?
I filed a bit off the sight - man - that sight is HARD!!!

Then I was able to get it on with a little persuasion with a hammer and a brass punch.

Awesome rear sight.

Thanks for all the replies!

Glad you got it on tire iron. Yes, it is a great sight!! I like nine a lot!

Ron
I had no problem installing mine, went right in.
I just got the Warren sight, but I'm running into the same problem as tire iron, it will not fit.

What area do you specifically file down on the sight?
In my experience the best way to fit a to tight sight is to slowly remove metal from the bottom of the sight. Use a stone or fine file, lay it on the table, place the sight in top of it, and move it back and forth making sure you remove metal evenly. It doesn't take much, so go easy and keep on checking.
