I am looking to buy a rail-mount weapons light for my M&P 40 compact. Does anyone use/recommend any specific light? I know if the surefire, streamlight and the springfield lights. Are there any mounting problems on the compact with any of these lights?

Thanks. I figured that the info they gave me was incorrect. I went ahead and ordered an Insight X2 to see how it fits and how the light looks. I was hoping for something a little more powerful, but I figure, if this one works well enough for low light/dark, then its good enough until they come out with something better. I can always send it back if I don't like it.

I will look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Insight X2. The only thing I see is that it sits a bit forward and the controls are not quite as close to the trigger guard as I would like. But I have not actually used one either.

Ron - I got my X2 today. Ordered it from eguns.com. I like it. I was also concerned about the controls after seeing some of the pictures, but it is not too bad. I didn't have to shift my grip in order to reach it. I guess it all depends on your finger length and the way you grip the pistol. Probably one of those things you would just have to try out.

I would have liked a bit brighter of a light, but it does a good enough job. All-in-all I think its a good light for the price.

Personal defense lights

Hi Folks, They don't make a light for my M&P's that satisfy me yet and it's a shame.

In the meantime I've been trying to find a really good LED pocket light for personal defense if your caught with your pants down and don't have your carry at least you can try and blind them and then just run like hell.
Surefire KORMIA is really impressive, but damb---$299+tax and shipping for a flashlight!!!!

There was a fellow doing some work on my entertainment center sound system and he had a killer pocket light, but I didn't think to ask about it and I try not to ask too many questions or converse too much with these guy's when they're charging by the hour.

Anyway do sny of you guys carry one of these little super bright little guy's for last ditch defense (I mean other than trying to kick their ass)
? If so what kind or what do you suggest?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, take a look here, https://www.fenix-store.com/ . Fenix makes some pretty good light at a good price. I have a couple of them.

Also you might look here, http://www.novatac.com/ . These are not cheap lights, but they are very nice lights. I have an HDS light that is made by the same guy who designed these lights. It is a VERY NICE light! Here are a couple pics of my HDS light.

Buy a Surefire 6P from Calvin at Brightflashlights ([email protected]) and replace the bulb with a drop-in Cree LED unit (they're all over eBay). Total cost will be around $80 for an aluminum bodied, bombproof EDC light that really pumps out the lumens and maximizes battery life. If you want the clickie tailcap, Calvin can add one of those, too.

I was at my fun store today and put a XML on the M&P9C and it wiggled back and forth a good bit. It definitely wasn't a solid or tight fit. Maybe the "key" or rail part can be switched out for something thicker but, not sure.

So far the X2 & X2L are the only lights that fit onto the Compact for sure. And gents, there are reasons why some folks prefer to have lights mounted on their pistol versus carrying a handheld, especially those with others around them, e.g., family members. You want the pistol up, you need the lights on and you need to hold someone's hand to get them moving past the threshold. I'm all for handheld but there are times........
