You know, I'm having the same problem with mine. I tried 4 mags and they all dropped. I looked at the mag release (the little metal piece that locks the mag in) and it was worn. I also have to send mine back in, waiting on the label. It has me thinking whether or not it will happen again (hopefully not when I need it). Once I get it back, I'll take it out a few time and inspect that little metal piece to see if it's wearing out again. I was told someone got a new mag release and it had a little 2 on it but I don't know if that is an upgraded mag release. We'll just have to wait and see if it looks any different.

5,000 Rds Maintenance

Smith & Wesson just certified a few of us at my department to be Armorers and he told us that at 5,000 rounds or 5 years certain things need to be replaced internally also to include the magazine springs. I have to find my Armorers manual and I will post what parts need to be changed. Since you have 4,000 + thru yours maybe it is time for the tune-up.

Any way you can post what would need to be replaced?

Keep in mind S&W has a little problem with the mag release. Sounds like yours just finally got around to finding out about it.

Wait and see what they do to it but my guess is they are going to replase the mag release with one that has a "2" stamped on it to indicate it's the upgraded part.

Please keep us posted on the outcome.

Sometimes things are difficult to track but has anyone had a problem with the fullsize 9mm and mags falling out?

Most all the mag drop problems are with the .40.

My fullsize 9mm has a #1 mag release. My compact 9mm has a #2 mag release. But I have not had any problems with either of them.

Thanks there YukonGlocker dude. I was hoping it was a .40 problem only since I don't have any of those.

Sgt4474, I am sure many like myself would love to see a copy of S&Ws maintenace and parts replacement list.
...The S&W rep told us to ignore the factory recommendation...

Hmmmmmm.
Could it have been the same rep who said there wasn't a difference between the grey and black followers?

Looks like I need to keep my mouth shut. :|

He explained it was just the factory's way of covering their butts. I believe him cause there's no way the M&P is only good for 5000 with original parts. Those kind of warnings and recommendations are pretty common in factory literature anyway.

No worries Yukon, I didn't misunderstand the tone of your post. My comment about keeping my mouth shut was more in reference to UPSguy remembering what the same S&W rep told me about the followers. I'm still waiting for a delivery from them so I want them to like me.

So I read (skimmed) through my armorer's manual tonight. I couldn't find anything in there that referenced life expectancy of springs or other parts. I do remember it coming up in the class though.
