My fullsize M&P 9 is over the 6000 round count at this point and I was wondering if or when I should replace the recoil spring or any other part? I have no malfunctions of any kind, I just have never owned a pistol with this many rounds through it and don't know if I should wait for something to break or fail before I replace it.

Thats what I like to hear.

Is there a point when you should start thinking about preventitive maintenance?

IIRC, the factory officially recommends changing out something at 5000 rounds - I think it was the recoil spring, but at 5000 there should be plenty of life left in it. The S&W rep told us to ignore that recommendation.

You might want to keep an extra mag catch lying around.
