"When will you guys be getting the M&P 45's here?" That was the question I asked while visiting a gun shop/range in Atlanta last week. The guy behind the counter barked back " As soon as they start making them!" Wow, you should have seen this guy argue with me that the 45 wasn't available yet and wasn't even in production for that matter. Sorta pissed me off, because I felt he was trying to embarrass me in front of a store full of people. The look on his face when I pulled my newly acquired M&P 45 out of my range bag.........PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!! He then blamed his response on his distributor saying they'd given him bad information.

That's great
I went through a similar thing on Monday, I sold another S&W to fund my M&P 45 purchase. The range I shoot at has both the non manual safety models as well as the safety versions, I called several other dealers to compare prices, I go the same response. "They're not out yet", "no one has them yet" etc. I quickly ponied up some $ to hold it until Fri. seeing as how they "aren't out yet"

Yeah it amazes me how many of the guys behind the counter have no idea of what they are talking about. It's a sad sight when you see a guy come into the shop and get "taken for a ride" because he has no prior experience/knowledge of firearms and trust what these guys are saying.

Most of my experiences with store clerks is that they are blind to everything else but there preference. Store I went to the clerk swore on the XD and thats what the clerks carried. Asked about anything else they either knew little to nothing, except for the common knowledge on the glocks. Pretty sad that alot of people go to shop for a firearm and they are given a sales clerks poor opinion instead of showing everything in the class of pistol they are looking for ie compacts, 1911's and so forth. If you work in a gun store you should study up and most of the firearms in the store at least.

If I worked in a gun store, I would consider that a perk of the job. Learning about guns is fun, and its the least you can do to help out the customers at your store. But I assume most make minimum wage, or close to it, and just don't care enough.

In California ever single store they say the same thing. It is not on the DOJ list of apprived guns yet. Oh really? It has been on it for over a month if not months! Two models. I took this as true until I went on the site myself and saw them listed.

Yep, ran into that one too. With one particular store, not only did they tell me it was not on the list, which I knew was false, but they told me it had expired from the list. These are the geniuses we're dealing with.

I experienced the same thing at a local range a while ago when i asked the young lady behind the counter if they had any Taurus 1911's as rentals. "Oh no, they're not out yet, when they are we'll be the first to have one around here" she said smugly. I'd seen one the week before in another shop, but didn't bother to correct her, there's nothing you can do to correct someone who already knows everything  It's nice (or sad) to know that it's the same everywhere.
