I have a MP 40 full size and love to shoot, but I have to buy my own ammo and even the WWB hurt a little at 23 dollars a box. I purchased a walther P22 the other day and love this little gun. I bought 550 rounds for around 10 dollars and shot a ton and barely made a dent in the box of shells. I was really able to concentrate on my mechanics and when I picked up my 40 I really could tell that what I was working on with the P22 was carrying over to the 40. Any one else use a .22 pratice pistol and what kind do you use.

I strongly favor using .22's as trainers because the ammunition cost is much less and the low recoil allows you to shoot more. In general, if you can't shoot accurately with a .22, you probably can't shoot accurately with anything else.

The P22 has an advantage of being somewhat similar to the M&P. It is also not as easy to shoot accurately as other .22 pistols, so the training value may be better. I have some reservations on the P22's, mostly due to the overall quality of the pistol. However, it may be a good choice if you want to save a fortune in .40 ammo and still get lots of practice.

Most of my rounds downrange are .22's. I have six of them. They are just fun to shoot and I get the more trigger time because of low price.

I also use a P22, which I chose for the dimentions and action. A Ruger mark III is a nice 22, but it bears almost no similarity to any defensive centerfire pistol. I did some work on my P22, mostly Polishing and grinding off the sharper edges on the internal workings, and it functions a little better than before. There's some more serious work I need to do to it to help the feed reliability. All of this can be found in the "P22 Bible." I don't have a link to where I got it, but I found it either here or on THR.

I usually shoot 100-200 rounds through it at teh range, along with 100 rounds of 40cal. It sure keeps the costs down.

I have a Advantage Arms .22 conversion for my Glock 23 and I enjoy shooting it very much. A friend of mine originally bought this conversion kit but sold his Glock after our department issued MP .40's to us. He no longer needed the conversion so he gave it to me with 3 magazines as well.

There is a topic complete with 5 pages http://mp-pistol.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=965 of information about .22 practice pistols... IMHO they are a necessity for anyone who wants to shoot, from the beginner to the advanced. The .22 is a fine practice, target, competition and just plain fun weapons platform.

My 3 Ruger .22's, I use for most anything... More pics posted in the Gallery under (.22 Porn).

I realized this weekend I really need to get one. Took a level 2 defensive handgun class and shot 1100 rds in two days. A .22 would be a perfect and much cheaper way to perfect technique and draw stroke.

Just got my Ruger 22/45

Just traded for a R 22/45 today. Boy am I happy. After endless hours of drooling over Morgan and Josh' 22's I finally had to do it, well with a little encouragement from Morgan that is.

Came just as it sits, Volquartsen V-Comp, SO LOW Mount, and standard Tasco Pro Point Red Dot that I plan on changing out after I get the cash to do so. I am very pleased with it to say the least!!!

Mine doesnt look as tripped out as theres, but there is a Yet to that!!

Needless to say I am very pleased, now I will try and make it out this weekend and see what this craze is about the .22's!!! cant wait

Here are a couple amature pics, will post detailed pics when I get my damn camera back....lol
