I've notice that the gap between the receiver and the slide about 1.5" from the front of the slide opens up as you move forward. In other words the lines between the slide and receiver aren’t parallel for about 1.5“?



Did Smith not get the receiver mold correct?

All the pistols are like that, thats the only part that isn't reinforced with metal.



Its really difficult to get that perfect with plastic, warpage happens when cooling takes place.

I found a good graphic of this.. If I understand your question correctly, what you are describing is the "tilt" action of the modern automatic pistol. The barrel is allowed to "tilt" as the slide blowsback, accepts a fresh cartridge, and readies itself to be shot again.

I am sure that David Bowie, or Dan Burwell can better explain how this works... but the graphic tells quite a tale.
