It would only be possible it you were willing to abandon the takedown tool and the ability to change backstraps.

I would actually like to attempt to do this. I need a compact, but all that I have is a .40 service model. How would you do this and how would I know how much to remove?

I would definately like to do this. I have no problem removing the tool or permanantly attaching the grip. How much would I need to remove? Also, would I have to angle the bottom of the grip at all. I would like to do this work myself.

Not a compact...but it is shorter.
