Hey all, I just picked up a used FS 9 Pro with the 4.25 inch barrel. It is roughly a 2011 production timeframe. The gun came without the box or the extra backstraps..it has the medium installed. Does anyone know where I might pick up a large black backstrap? I'd sure appreciate any help in this regards. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I had seen that and also that it was unavailable at this time. I have put in for the notification...you just never know if or when it will become available.

Holy cow...I had checked on flea bay earlier and all I found were pink and sand colored ones. I guess that I didn't look hard enough. It is a little more than I would prefer to spend, but when you want one, sometimes it's gonna cost ya.

Thanks for the help...it is truly appreciated.:D

Those two links above don't look like the Pro back straps. Those look like regular M&P back straps without the extra stippling. The Pro and Performance Center back straps have texturing like this:

EDIT: After looking through the Smith&Wesson website, it seems that the textured backstraps come on the CORE versions. Some of the photos of Pro models show the standard backstrap same as the regular M&P.

Good luck trying to buy these ones. They are not available anywhere. I've been looking to upgrade mine but for some reason S&W is not supplying these to anyone. I find this kind of odd because they have been out for a couple of years now and come with all the new M&P's.

The medium backstrap on this Pro looks just like all of my other M&P's, nothing more. Again, this is a roughly 2011 production gun, so I don't know if that makes any difference or not.

I have a friend that has a five inch Pro from that time frame.

I haven't seen it lately, but, other than the longer slide/barrel and fiber optic front sight, as I recall it looked just like my standard M&P9.

The Pro Series does have a different backstrap, the texture is a bit more aggressive, but that's the only difference. You can see some of the backstrap in this photo of my Pro Series CORE. Its just like the one shown in the above post for the Pro Series.

Anyway, you can contact Smith&Wesson with your serial number and get replacement backstraps from them.

I had thought about contacting S&W, but I figured hey...I bought this used as is knowing that the box and extras were not there. So I bought it knowing I might have to spend a few extra bucks to be fully satisfied. Thanks for the idea though.

I screwed up my OEM aggressive backstrap, called S&W and they sent me one at their expense. I suggested paying for it and was flatly turned down. But talk to one of the guys from the PC. The first woman I talked to told me to send the gun in to get one. Ridiculous. I dialed again, got a gent, he traced my ser' #, saw that it was a Perf' Center gun and sent it out.

Well, found out a little bit on this gun. Model number 178035, made on June 22nd 2011. I also ran a mag of some cheap range ammo and got a decent 3 inch group at 10 yards with a 20-25 mile an hour cross wind blowing me around. So, all in all, I am pleased with this thing.

This backstrap/palm swell is not available anywhere as a part yet. It only comes with a new gun.

This gun also has the 1/16" sear spring and plunger. They came out with the 1/8" sear spring and plunger in 11/2011.

Have a large backstrap coming, should be here over the weekend or early next week. I had wondered when the newer sear housings were utilized. The trigger and reset in stock form seem very similar to my newer 9 that I installed the Apex duty kit into. So now I know if I should choose to do more, a, new sear housing would be in order too. The factory night sights are pretty much gone, but outdoor shooting is fine. I might replace them sometime down the road.

If I remember correctly sear housings are approx' $25 at Brownells. Not at all expensive. If you intend to do any smoothing work it's worth having a spare on hand just in case.

My Pro Series has a build date of 11/2011 and it has the 1/8" sear spring and plunger in it. I upgraded the trigger bar to the "H" and the slide stop to a Gen 3 and it makes a big difference in the reset. Before the upgrade there was zero tactile and audible reset.

The sear block housing that Brownell's sells comes with a mag disconnect, but it only takes a few minutes to remove it.

Finally got the time to get to the range this morning and see what this Pro could do in my hands. Having the large backstrap made the difference in my hand that I was hoping for...felt great. I ran just 30 rounds thru, and all were in a nice 3-4 inch group at 10 yards. When I got home I did move the rear sight just a fuzz...my group was center to 1.5 inches left of dead center. I'll recheck for center next time I get out with it. But all in all...I love this gun:clap:

The large backstrap I picked up is identical in appearance to all of my other regular non Pro M&P's. As I mentioned earlier, the gun was a June 2011 production date. These seem to work just fine for me.

If you do want to increase the aggressiveness of it I find skateboard tape to work as good or better than the enhanced backstrap that came with my PC gun. It doesn't need to be pretty either. Just a strip of it maybe 1" wide is all that's needed. Same on the front.

I bought a piece 10" wide and 4' (?) long for just a few dollars on ebay. It's enough for at least hundreds of applications and the first piece hasn't come off yet. Not even close to coming off. Just hit it with a heat gun to get it good and hot, then press it onto the backstrap.

Crazy that S&W will not sell these to distributors as well. I get my stuff through Speed Shooter Specialties...and I order in bulk from S&W as well. You can get a single, but no way you are buying them. NO idea why this is the case - gotta order tomorrow so I will ask CS at S&W again.
