first, does anyone know if there is such a thing as a .22 conversion kit for the m&p compacts?

second, i called S&W cs today to ask the same question, and i was told they, as the manufacturer, weren't allow to change the caliber of the gun. i asked why sig does it for my P229? answer, "i don't know how they get away with it. i really don't."

is this BS in it's most obvious form, or is there really some rule/law against a manufacturer changing the caliber of the gun?

I know sigs P250 is interchangable but it is teh trigger mechinism that is serial numbered and registered ad not teh frame or barrels. I am not sure about the 229 but that may be part of it.

It's BS. Kimber sell plenty of there 22 kits for 1911.

S&W is missing a great market place.

There is a rumor that Tactical Solutions has a conversion kit for the M&P coming out this year. They already make one for Glocks and 1911s.

I emailed them yesterday, today they replied:

"Unfortunately, As of now, it is not in the works for a S&E M&P. Please keep a look out on our web page for any new announcements.

Thank you,

There's one coming - just look at the M&P22 AR. I'm pretty sure they realize how much of a market there is, but I wouldn't rule out that S&W might even collaborate with TacSol to make it (Look at the stock magazines - they're exactly what MecGar would have made for the M&P pistols.
