M&P sights are installed and are removed from the ejection port side of the slide. Some poor person might see this pic and drive the sights out or in on the wrong side.

Personal Opinion: You'll sell a HELL of a lot more units if you eliminate the cost of milling the slide!



Design an optic mounting plate system with an integrated tall rear sight BUIS that mounts in the current rear sight dovetail. Package that with a matched-height front sight. So you have 2 pieces that the average guy with a bench vise can install. No milling required!



But then I'm just practical like that...

I suspect the rear sight sized cross-sectional area of the unit you propose might have some issues holding up to the shear forces generated by the slide cycling against the inertia of the sight and mount.

 

Although I really like the design, what's the application? Not many guys are going to be switching between different red dot sights on the same weapon



We have an M&P40 slide milled for the J-point/Doctor MRDS, our 1/4 oz. J-point has an integrated rear sight that works well with a factory front sight, and I for one am not interested in swapping it out with a 4 oz. Aimpoint monolith.

 

Guys, thanks for the responses and interest. The whole project started with a request for a T-1 mounting solution. Surprisingly a LOT of end users want this. The other issue is height of the optic. If you have shot a milled

Slide vs dovetail adapter slide, 1/2" does make a difference. We looked at an integrated sight solution but nixed it for a few reasons.



I think the main draw is a standard. So knowing you can try a different optic, or just buy a new adapter plate for optics that may come out in the future.



The prototypes should be cut in the next few weeks and we are working on getting the adapter plates mass produced.

To answer your question, we thought about it, and there are some considerations for it, but probably not right off the bat, as the gun has sights installed already...



Well guys, here it is, Mark worked his Black Magic with the sights and we have some pictures of the fully complete prototypes. Once we get them back, some will scatter to the wind for testing by other end users, and some will stay with us for testing.

On a side note, this has sparked our interest to produce some of the other designs have been sitting on. For us, its a big step, but once we get the prototypes complete, we will share them.

 

To answer your question, we thought about it, and there are some considerations for it, but probably not right off the bat, as the gun has sights installed already...

I was just mentioning it for example someone might want to

• shoot irons with the full sight radius
• be able to return it back to a somewhat stock look
• be able to return it to a more easily concealable format without optics

A mount with a length of 1913 picatinny rail would nice as well.

Its possible on the M&P, however, using the stock atom plate, aesthetics will be poor as the tab will extended into the reliefed area of the slide.

 

How about some special order parts just for the M&P.

 

I could probably do that, we would need a minimum of 25 buyers to pay upfront though. I'll re-visit it once we get the main product out there.

If you have already answered this in a previous post, I apologize. How much height does adding the adaptor plate add as opposed to direct mounting of the optic to milled slide?



It doesn't seem to be much and I think the versatility would outweigh the minor increase in height.



You may want to touch base with Safariland and check to see if their new dedicated optic holster will accommodate the added height of the plate. I only suggest this for your military and law enforcement customers who will have to run the optic in a duty holster will ask.



I do think these mounts are genius. One hang up I had was having the slide milled for a specific optic then a better optic coming out.

Waiting for the M&P!

 

Its coming, should have A T&E slide out to users shortly.

 

Once you get rolling what are you guys shooting for as far as turn around. I was planning on getting a similar service done on all my m&p pistols one per month. However, I sent the first slide at the beginning of march just to get milled and have yet to see the thing back. Last I heard over a month ago was one week.



The service on this device looks a bit more complex than a slot in the slide with an endmill and a couple of tapped holes. If you could get these down to two weeks I am sure you would get lots of jobs.

 

2 Week turnaround not to include shipping is the goal. We feel it is acheivable. We are just starting the glock run, M&P Prototypes should be done shortly.

The prototype looks nice. However, to mill every slide or sell slides already milled that might fit a a wide variety of add-on optics seems like a lot of commotion to offer to the shooter audience-at-large. In my opinion, a more simplistic solution is already available in the format of a rail mounted platform for the M&P that basically transposes the integral rail to an above slide rail; very inexpensive, no modifications to primary gun necessary, install / remove in seconds. What's not to like ?

Even looks good on a SIG !

 

I think between the expensive, milled in version, and the add on bracket that eliminates holstering, I would split the difference and get one that fits in the M&P dovetail, even if it doesn't have BUIS. I think I saw the Trijicon mounted in one. Maybe competition will drive the cost of all these sights down some time, I'm wishing.
If money were no object, the Unity Tactical mount would be the hot ticket, needs to be on every SWAT pistol hanging in a thigh holster out there, in my opinion (at least based on how solid it looks).
